New Album From Aaliyah???

2012 will mark the 11 year passing of R&B singer and actress, Aaliyah. Since her untimely death, there hasn’t been any new music that’s surfaced….until now. Producer Jeffrey “J Dub” Walker revealed on Twitter yesterday “Just got great news today; the smash unreleased song called “Steady Ground” I produced on #Aaliyah is gonna be on her upcoming album:)”,. He worked with Aaliyah (whose name means “highest, most exalted one”) on her self titled final album on the tracks “I Refuse” and “What If” (2 of the most creative and interesting tracks on the project).

“Steady Ground” was leaked a while back as an unreleased track and was penned by Static Major (member of the R&B group Playa, who passed in 2008). There’s no doubt Aaliyah had a major string of hits during her short-lived career (“Are You That Somebody”,”One In A Million”,”Rock The Boat”,”Try Again”). But after over 10 years with no new music in a now even more fickle music business, how will this CD fare on the charts? There’s been no official confirmation from the record label, but I’m anxious to see what comes of this. I wonder if any other artists will be featured on the project as well.

So what do you think of possible new music from Aaliyah? Is there still room for her sound in today’s current music?
