7 Is The Sign Of….

Seventh Animated Wallpaper 1.0.0

7 is one of the most powerful numbers there. People often refer to it as “Lucky 7″ and it also has an important Biblical meaning as the sign of completion. “On the seventh day God rested from his labors and creation is finished”- Genesis 2:2. Plus there are countless other references that symbolize its role as a number of perfection and importance. Ironically, “The Seventh Sign of Completion” was the line name given to from my chapter when I was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I was the 7th person to enter into the chapter and now there’s a whole new reason to love the number 7.

As you may know by now, I am preparing for the official release of my second book, Hindsight 20/20, on April 5, 2013. The book represents real life issues including holding grudges against people, complications of love and facades that people present.   All of this comes from a poetic point of view and includes essays as well. Throughout this whole process, and even since the release of my first book, Blurred Vision, I’ve had the privilege of meeting numerous wonderful writers. Sadly, many of these writers have not had the chance to release their work to the public because of binding, one-sided publishing contracts where they  lose creative and financial control of their work. So, I decided something had to be done about this. The A-ha moment and the light bulb went off when talking to another writing friend of mine and hearing her publishing company story. This inspired me to start my own publishing company to be able to help other great writers avoid this pitfall.

Hindsight 20/20 is very special to me, not only because it’s my second book, but it also marks the launch of my new publishing company, 7th Sign Publishing! The mission of 7th Sign Publishing is to promote perfection and wholeness in literature, while exploring different genres of writing. The second book to be unveiled from 7th Sign Publishing will be Naked by John Patrick Adams. Trust me when I tell you that much more than the title of this book will grab your attention. Once you read it you will truly be inspired to transform your life. The official release date will be May 4, 2013. Plus, be on the lookout for an outstanding book on financial literacy with a twist, to be released later this year. I can’t say too much about this one yet, but we all want to manage our money better, don’t we?!

If you haven’t already purchased your pres sale copy, there’s still time to get Hindsight 20/20 at a discounted price before the official April 5th release! Also, stay tuned for great things to come from 7th Sign Publishing.

Meet the Fokkens Twins

Meet The Fokkens

Most people in today’s age retire between the ages of 55 to 70 years old (give or take). Many workers look forward to this joyous day that they can be free from work uniforms, punching a clock, wearing a suit and tie and putting up with corporate games. But what happens when you have a job that not so um….morally appropriate and you decided to retire? Do you get the same glory out of it? Apparently so. Meet Louise and Martine Fokkens. These twin ladies have decided to hang up their working hats at 70 year old….from prostitution. WTH?! Yes, you read correctly…..twin prostitutes who are retiring at the age of 70.

As Louise and Martine make their exit from the prostitution business, Amsterdam just happen to raise their minimum age for it from 18 to 21. But from the time the Fokkens twins started in the business until now, they’ve had over 355,000 men between the two of them. Talk about good record keeping. After that many bed (or street, car, etc) partners, who would really still be counting? They’ve only decided to retire because of arthritis and the fact that there aren’t too many customers looking for 70 year old prostitutes on the street. And if you thought they were just sitting on the couch watching TV finding new gardening tips, then think again. They’ve decided to write a book about the experiences, titled “The Ladies of Amsterdam”. I’m sure this one will be flying off the shelves as this the first I’ve ever heard of twin prostitutes (and 70 years old at that).  In the book, they’ll be talking about the changes they’ve seen in the profession over the years and how the best years of prostitution were those that were before its legalization in 2000. Is it just me or would those just so happen to be the better years too because they were younger back then? Just a thought.

I can’t be mad at these retired prostitute twins for making some money off of their story. After all, they still have to have a hustle in life some kind of way. “Meet the Fokkens” was also a documentary om the twins that was released in 2012. One of the sisters still has one foot in her old life though. Martine still has a regular customer that she sees so much that she claims it’s “like going to church on Sunday”. SMH…..come on Martine. At this point, it’s time to hang it up for good. What do you think about these women of the night? Well, let me rephrase that because with more than 355,000 clients, they were obviously women of the night, morning and afternoon. Do you think they should get paid for their documentary and book now that their prostitution days have hit a brick wall?

Robin Thicke Blurs Lines

Robin Thicke

If you’ve heard of any Robin Thicke’s music, then you know that he sounds eerily similar to another artist  I blogged about earlier today, Justin Timberlake. Not to say that he’s copying off of Timberlake, because his music is pretty underrated (and original) in my opinion. Hot off the heels of his most recent release, Love After War, he’s back again with the new single, “Blurred Lines” featuring T.I. and Pharrell. The song has a catchy beat and lyrics that I can easily see being played on the radio. I don’t see it being a major hit, but then again, Robin Thicke has plenty of songs that should have been major hits that weren’t. “Blurred Lines” is the first single from his upcoming studio album. One thing is for sure…..his hustle in the music business never stops!

Check out “Blurred Lines” below, plus one of my favorite songs from Love After War.

The 20/20 Experience Sequel?

JT 2

It’s not everyday that an artist can take a 4 year plus break from a successful album before releasing another one. Justin Timberlake’s 2nd second CD, FutureSex/LoveSounds was released in 2006 and spawned the hit singles “My Love”, “Sexy Back”, and “What Goes Around…”. In the meantime, he has dabbled in acting in various films but has now returned to his day job, singing. I personally think he should stick with this one instead of acting, lol. The question most fans have for a follow-up album after such a lengthy hiatus is whether or not it’s worth buying. Within just the first 3 tracks of The 20/20 Experience, that question is answered with a resounding yes.

Some of you may have heard the CD before the official release date, via illegal downloading or the free iTunes stream the week before the release (hopefully it’s the latter, lol). However, the Target version of the CD includes 2 bonus tracks that are worthy enough to have been added to the original 10 track collection. “Pusher Love Girl” is a slow slumping smooth groove that finds Justin Timberlake pleading for his “dealer” woman to keep supplying him with her addictive “drugs”. Then there’s the infectious first single, featuring Jay Z (“Suit and Tie”), which seems to be catching the likes of several generations and shows his growth as an artist. “Strawberry Bubblegum” is one of my favorites that is reminiscent of Michael Jackson and even borrows a bit from the old N’Sync classic hit, “Pop”. The song’s lyrics are a bit sugary but not too sappy (“If you’d be my strawberry bubblegum/Then I’ll be your blueberry lollipop) and nonetheless clever. This song is packed with innuendo and similar to many of the other tracks and FutureSex/LoveSounds, includes long interludes that tie in to the song or the album’s theme. “Let The Groove Get In” is a thumping latin inspired track that is lyrically competitive  but still addictive. Plus with a beat that good, who really cares? Lol. But the ultimate secret weapon the CD is “Spaceship Coupe”, a slow jam produced by Timbaland (who produces almost all of the CD) and Timberlake that sounds like a perfect mix of Phyllis Hyman’s version of “Betcha By Golly Wow”, Justin Timberlake’s own “Until The End of Time” and Ciara’s sultry classic, “Promise”. This song is sheer genius and you just have to hear it for yourself.

So with an album this great, you must be thinking that it will be another few years before he jumps back in the studio for a follow-up. Think again. Not one to rest on his laurels this go round, drummer Questlove from The Roots was actually the first to spill the beans on talk of a new Justin Timberlake album. Yes, according to Questlove, the 2nd installment of The 20/20 Experience will be available in plain sight and ripe for purchasing by November of this year. He revealed the news in Okayplayer chat stating, “spoiler alert. 20/20 Vol 2 comes out in nov. (10 songs now … 10 songs later= 20 vision).” He also went on to say how he heard all 20 tracks out of orders and doesn’t know which ones will be on each album. Plus he stated that this concept may be a bit to lofty and strenuous. Maybe so…..but is it just me, or does it sound like Questlove could be hating just a tad bit? Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great artist in his own right. But some of his comments sound a little shady to me, especially considering that he leaked the information. Since the leak, Justin Timberlake has confirmed the rumor to be correct, just not exactly when it will be released.

Will you be ready for a new Justin Timberlake CD again in November? What do you think of The 20/20 Experience? Word on the street is that he just may etch out 1,000,000 copies sold in his first week.
