Natural Sistas Are Here With Me

Here a couple of great new songs that I heard last week and my thoughts on them. Check out the songs below and feel free to leave your opinions as well!

Jay Alexander: Here With Me Featuring Aaron Thomas

Jay Alexander

Jay Alexander hails from New Orleans, LA and has just released his EP Eight (New Beginnings), with “Here With Me” featuring Aaron Thomas as the lead single from the project. At just 19 years old, Jay’s voice is mature beyond his age. He’s up for Contemporary Artist of The Year by the Gospel Sounds Radio Network and here’s another interesting fact: gospel legend Mahalia Jackson is one of his relatives. On “Here With Me”, Jay reveals his smooth tone and effortless melodies. The feature here with Aaron Thomas is a nice touch, as both of their voices are similar, but different enough to compliment each other. The song speaks of God always being with us through whatever we go through. What I found especially intriguing about the song though is that his voice is very reminiscent of R & B superstar Brandy. This is not a bad thing, but merely a comparison. My only complaint is that a more lyrically substantial chorus would have made the song even better. With great production and on point vocals, I’m sure Jay Alexander will be around for years to come. For more info on Jay Alexander, check out www.jayalexanderofficial.com.

Quentin Moore: Natural Sista

Q Moore

Quentin Moore is from Austin, TX and has brought his talents with him to Dallas, TX. His new single is called “Natural Sista”. The production on this song has a knock to it that’s irresistible. I love Neo Soul music and I could easily listen to this in my car or in a lounge. Quentin praises women with natural hair on this track  as he sings, “Don’t you ever think about giving up your crown”. His voice is smooth and perfectly matches the production here. His voice has traces of R & B legend Smokey Robinson too. I could easily listen to this song in the background of whatever I’m doing. It has a radio friendly appeal, without losing its “natural” roots and appeal. Look for his CD, You Forgot Your Heart to be released this Spring. If it’s anything like “Natural Sista”, I’m sure it will be a great buy. This song makes me want to drink tea with a smooth and chill ambiance in the background. Attack of the 56 Foot Vending Machine

Everyone that knows me well, knows I love Doritos. They are hands down my favorite chips. With the exception of the Late Night line (don’t know what happened to those…), I’ve never tasted a Dorito chip that I didn’t like. Over the past several years, Doritos has gotten extremely aggressive with their marketing campaigns and used social media as an inexpensive and effective outlet to get the buzz out on their product. Just think about the frenzy the “Crash The Super Bowl” commercials have caused since their introduction in 2006.

So true to form, Doritos makes history as it introduces a 56 foot high interactive vending machine at the South by Southwest (SXSW) event in Austin, TX this past weekend. The brand activation introduced Doritos JACKED, with 2 new flavors: Enchilada Supreme and Smoky Chipotle BBQ. It’s the new Doritos chip that’s 40% bigger and thicker the regular Doritos. The oversized Doritos JACKED vending machine also doubled as a stage for musical acts such as Snoop Dogg to perform on that night at the Doritos JACKED Maxim party. Consumers were also able to insert giant coins in side the vending machine for a chance to win 9 foot bags of Doritos JACKED and other prizes.  Needless to say this oversized marketing idea could be a huge win for Doritos.

Also, if you haven’t tried the new Doritos Locos Taco from Taco Bell, go get it! It’s really good…basically the Doritos Nacho Cheese flavor on a taco shell. Hopefully the flavors branch out to Cool Ranch and some of the other consumer favorites where we can buy these in stores. Just a thought.

So what do you think about this new marketing campaign? Is it over the top or ingenious creativity?
