CrazySexyCreep

TLC 2

As TLC gears up for the release (filming has already been completed) of its upcoming VH1 Biopic (CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story), music video director Lionel C. Martin (Boyz II Men’s ” End of the Road and SWV’s “Right Here”) has also released a never before seen video of their hit song “Creep”. Although I prefer the one that was shot with Matthew Rolston (Salt N Pepa’s “None of Your Business, Brandy’s “Wildest Dreams”), this video is still quite entertaining. It takes a more grungy approach than the polished final version. You’ll notice that Left Eye seems a bit removed from the creeping shenanigans, while T-Boz takes center stage for the main skit of her literally sneaking out of the window and making it back home just in time before her boyfriend notices she’s gone. And Chilli finds herself creeping on a man whose hair is just as long as hers….and he has his own secret.

It’s a comical video done only the way TLC can. Plus, who else can wear ripped up jeans and shirts that resemble car wash wipers and still look sexy??? Check out the video below and a rare remix that features one of Left Eye’s most interesting raps. It totally contradicts the whole meaning of the song. Always the rebel, she originally wanted to wear black tape over her mouth in the music video and wasn’t pleased with the song’s message and it’s selection as being the lead single from CrazySexyCool.

Natural Sistas Are Here With Me

Here a couple of great new songs that I heard last week and my thoughts on them. Check out the songs below and feel free to leave your opinions as well!

Jay Alexander: Here With Me Featuring Aaron Thomas

Jay Alexander

Jay Alexander hails from New Orleans, LA and has just released his EP Eight (New Beginnings), with “Here With Me” featuring Aaron Thomas as the lead single from the project. At just 19 years old, Jay’s voice is mature beyond his age. He’s up for Contemporary Artist of The Year by the Gospel Sounds Radio Network and here’s another interesting fact: gospel legend Mahalia Jackson is one of his relatives. On “Here With Me”, Jay reveals his smooth tone and effortless melodies. The feature here with Aaron Thomas is a nice touch, as both of their voices are similar, but different enough to compliment each other. The song speaks of God always being with us through whatever we go through. What I found especially intriguing about the song though is that his voice is very reminiscent of R & B superstar Brandy. This is not a bad thing, but merely a comparison. My only complaint is that a more lyrically substantial chorus would have made the song even better. With great production and on point vocals, I’m sure Jay Alexander will be around for years to come. For more info on Jay Alexander, check out www.jayalexanderofficial.com.

Quentin Moore: Natural Sista

Q Moore

Quentin Moore is from Austin, TX and has brought his talents with him to Dallas, TX. His new single is called “Natural Sista”. The production on this song has a knock to it that’s irresistible. I love Neo Soul music and I could easily listen to this in my car or in a lounge. Quentin praises women with natural hair on this track  as he sings, “Don’t you ever think about giving up your crown”. His voice is smooth and perfectly matches the production here. His voice has traces of R & B legend Smokey Robinson too. I could easily listen to this song in the background of whatever I’m doing. It has a radio friendly appeal, without losing its “natural” roots and appeal. Look for his CD, You Forgot Your Heart to be released this Spring. If it’s anything like “Natural Sista”, I’m sure it will be a great buy. This song makes me want to drink tea with a smooth and chill ambiance in the background. My Oh Mya….The New Look

Mya. We all remember her right? The woman behind the hits “My Love Is Like…Wo”, “Case of the Ex” and “It’s All About Me” has created somewhat of a lengthy and successful career for herself. Although “…Wo” was probably her last big hit (and my personal favorite) she has definitely made some quality music since then. So what is she up to these days???? She actually released a CD on iTunes a few months back called K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple).  I’ve heard some of the tracks and they are actually pretty good. But it’s her music video for the new single “Take Him Out”, featuring Spice that really concerns me. Gone are the days of her sleek, sexy outfits, good lighting and stylish clothes. Don’t get me wrong, she still looks great physically. But this video is just simply put….not good. The song is decent, but you have to see this for yourself to believe. I ran across this video this week and was really embarrassed for her. You have to see this one to believe it. Somebody, please take this video out of public viewing…SMH

And on a brighter note, Peauxetic Expressions has changed up its look from the previous layout. You will find that the blog postings are much easier to navigate. Plus you can easily access all of my YouTube videos at the top of the home page.  And don’t forget to pick up your copy of my poetry book, Blurred Vision, if you don’t already have one. Just go to any of the posts related to Blurred Vision, and you can purchase your copy there, through PayPal. My new book, Hindsight 20/20, is now complete and will be released in the first quarter of 2013!

Here’s another (more appealing) clip of Mya in her glory days….

Whitney’s Legacy Never Gives Up

By now, you may have already heard the new Whitney Houston song, “Never Give Up”. The song will be featured on her new greatest hits project I Will Always Love You- The Best of Whitney Houston. Considering she released Whitney- The Greatest Hits, a double disc that also featured rare remixes, in 2000, it will be interesting to see if fans will really buy into it. The CD also features the previously unreleased R. Kelly duet version of her hit “I Look To You”. Usually in the case of a greatest hits featuring a couple of new tracks, the new songs have to come out the gate slamming. In the case of “Never Give Up”, I’m not convinced. The song was produced by Jermaine Dupri, which isn’t bad considering his track record of hits. The melody is nice but it sounds like a scrapped song from one of Mariah Carey’s “Mimi” studio sessions. It even has that quick stutter sing rapping (think “Shake It Off”). That works for Mariah, not Whitney. Coming from an artist who brought such fire on songs like “I Will Always Love You”, “I Believe In You And Me” and even “I’m Your Baby Tonight”, the song just doesn’t fit her catalog. True, many have said that her voice was not the same anymore as it was on her classic hits….but whose voice is after 20 plus years??? Does the quality of music have to suffer? I think not.

“Never Give Up” does have an inspirational message though, which specifically speaks to the single mother and the student by day, dancer by night. Nevertheless, I think people will like it just because it’s something new from Whitney Houston. I probably won’t be buying the new CD since I already have her first greatest hits. Plus, I think that this is just a quick cash scheme to get rich and gain profit from another great talent gone too soon. There’s nothing wrong with releasing new music (I think every deceased artist’s record company does it at some point), but there’s a limit to any madness. An upcoming The Bodyguard inspired musical, book and the new reality show are a bit much for me. I just can’t stand to see people using someone else’s misfortune for financial gain. But it’s all in loving memory right? Ok, I digress. ***stepping off soap box now***

But seriously, it’s still so hard to believe Whitney Houston left this earth almost exactly 9 months ago. But her legacy still lives on….and always will. There’s no doubt she had one of the best voices of any generation and there’s nothing wrong with honoring such a powerhouse singer. But what is the fine line between honor and personal gain? Will you be buying the CD when it hits shelves tomorrow? What’s your favorite Whitney Houston song/moment?

In case you haven’t heard it yet, here’s “Never Give Up”.
