Unless you’ve been living in the dark for the last few years, it’s impossible to miss CeeLo’s presence. He has become an international superstar seemingly over night, with massive hits like “Forget You” and “Crazy” (with the short-lived duo Gnarls Barkley). But his career has not been the typical kind of success story we may be used to. He first got his start with rap group Goodie Mob, where he served as rapper and singer on hits like “Get Rich To This”, “Cell Therapy”, and “They Don’t Dance No Mo”. The group has now come full circle after a 13 year hiatus, with their new single “Fight to Win” (one of their best ever) and upcoming CD, Age Against The Machine.

Now 4 solo albums in (Cee-Lo Green..Is The Soul Machine is still my favorite), the question on many people’s mind is what could he possibly do next? After reaching what many have said was a career high at last year’s Grammy awards (winning 2 awards for the song, “Fool For You” with Melanie Fiona) and performing “Forget You” with actress Gwenyth Paltrow,  has he topped himself? As if he wasn’t busy enough prepping for the release of the new Goodie Mob project and talks of a new Gnarls Barkley album with producer Danger Mouse, he found the time to make a Christmas CD called Cee-Lo’s Magic Moment. The set’s first single is the playful and festive All I Need Is Love featuring The Muppets (check it out below) Other guests include The Voice co-star Christina Aguilera, Rod Stewart, and Straight No Chaser. Ironically, the CD hits stores tomorrow, just one day before Halloween. But considering Ceelo’s quirky style and unique voice, this may have been the best release date for him

Fast Company named him the 5th most creative person in business of 2012 (of 100 people total).  Ceelo also just announced his new Vegas show, CeeLo Green Presents Loberace. That creativity is what’s sure to drive music lovers to the stores this week to pick up his Christmas album. He chose to put his spin on old classics instead of making an album full of original tracks. But nonetheless, with Cee-Lo we never what angle he’s coming from (Rap, R &B, Pop or even Rock), but we do know that it will be entertaining

Will you be buying Cee-Lo’s Magical Moment this holiday season?

Drake: First Name Greatest, Last Name Ever?

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Drake in the last couple of weeks. He recently made the following statement in an interview with The Jewish Chronicle: “There were people who incorporated melody before me but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing. Yes, there are aspects of it that are new in the rap world. But it’s not a gimmick. I just sort of exist and people embrace it. I’m one of the few artists who gets to be himself every day. It doesn’t take me six hours to get ready and I don’t have to wake up in the morning and remember to act like this or talk like this.” Before I go into my opinion about this, I will say that I am a fan of Drake….but he has really lost his mind. Just off the top of my head, I can think of several people who have very successfully pulled off rapping and singing. Lauryn Hill? Missy Elliott? Even Queen Latifah? I guess they’re irrelevant… I’ve honestly lost a lot of respect for Drake on this one. Check out the poll below and vote on who you think the best singer and rapper is. Is Drake really the greatest to ever do it?

But wait, that’s not it….he’s also in the news for possibly executive producing a posthumous CD from Aaliyah. Hmmmm….although I can easily see him being featured on Aaliyah song (check out their new song rumored to be on her upcoming CD below, “Enough Said”), but executive producing the whole project? Not that  having 2 tattoos of the late singer (one of her face on his back and one that represents his area code and her birthday) should question his ability to work on this project. I would love to hear some unreleased music from Aaliyah, but I’m just not sure Drake is the man for the job. Apparently, Timbaland doesn’t think so either. He stopped by Power 105′s The Breakfast Club last week and said ”I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if he do it, it should be with me and Missy. The proper way for him to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record.  But to put it on his record, would just not be right.” As cocky as it may sound, I definitely agree. Timbaland and Missy have crafted most of Aaliyah major hits, so why wouldn’t they be included? The world will never know the foolery Drake will pull next. Or is he just acting in his role as the greatest ever?

***New Track From Aaliyah and Drake, “Enough Said”*** FUTURE HIT OR MISS???

Two Can Play That Game

Life is a game.  No matter how you analyze or dissect it, it’s all a game.  Let’s take dating for instance. We say we don’t like playing games, but we play them don’t we? Don’t think so? I beg to differ. Just think about dating or just going out on the weekend. Ladies, do you not get dressed up in your most form-fitting dress, put every strand of hair in place and flawless makeup? Guys, do you not put on your best smelling cologne, maybe do a few extra push ups, and shave right before we walk out the door. Again, it’s all a game to get what you want out of life.

One of the games we find ourselves on the extreme cooperative or non cooperative end of is when it comes to the work place. Do you consider yourself to be an over political or under political person when it comes to the workplace? Even if you possess qualities of both, chances are you lean more heavily to one side. I recently finished reading a really informative book on workplace behavior and scenarios called Survival of the Savvy: High Integrity Political Tactics for Career and Company Success (sheesh….say that 10 times fast) by Rick Brandon, Ph.D., and Marty Seldman, Ph.D.

I received the book as part of a course I took for work called, “Organizational Savvy”. The class and the book both discuss how we all have a “political buzz” about us, whether we realize it or not. Are you known as the over bearing project leader or maybe the passive leader who needs just a push of aggressiveness to really succeed? Brandon and Seldman define “organizational politics” as  informal, unofficial, and sometimes behind-the scenes efforts to sell ideas, influence an organization, increase power, or achieve other targeted objectives. The purpose of the book is not to take you completely out of your comfort zone. It’s more so to help you realize that if you do certain things as an over or under political person, you will more than likely get specific results. The best thing is to take pieces of each side to be stern, balanced, and progressive in your career.

So you may be thinking, “I don’t care about my job,” or “This doesn’t apply to me”. Not so fast….it does. Whether you’re in the corporate world or not, you have to deal with people in everyday life. As long as we have to deal with people, there will always be politics. So why not incorporate these values for what we get paid to do? It just makes sense. Make sure to check out Survival of the Savvy…You can find it online at Amazon.com and at your local bookstore. Trust me, you’ll be glad that you read it.

It’s game time, so how are you going to play? Share your testimony of times you had to deal with organizational politics and how you handled it?
