During the Thanksgiving break, I had a little more time to catch up with my TV watching. Check out some of my favorite TV show theme songs below, and my absolute least favorite one ever.
5. Knight Rider
I’ve never really watched Knight Rider, but I love this theme song. I just can’t sit still listening to this. It’s so good that Busta Rhymes and Timbaland/Magoo even sampled the Stu Phillips and Glen A. Larsen written track in their songs, “Fire It Up” and “Clock Strikes (Remix)”. This music is so addictive that theme song doesn’t even need words to it. Check it out below….
4. Golden Girls
Something about that piano riff and the words of this theme song make me pay attention. This is another show that I don’t really watch much, but the theme song is one of my favorites. The full song, “Thank You For Being A Friend”, was written by Andrew Gold and performed by Cynthia Fee the abbreviated version for the Golden Girls. The show starred Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty and had a 7 year run (1985-1992).
3. A Different World
This is one of my favorite shows (especially the seasons with Jada Pinkett, lol). Although a bit exaggerated, I think the scenarios portrayed here were realistic and comical at the same time. There were several versions of this hit theme song recorded by Boyz II Men, Phoebe Snow and Aretha Franklin. What many people may not know is the song was written by Stu Gardner, Bill Cosby and cast member Dawnn Lewis (a.k.a. Jaleesa). But it was Aretha Franklin’s version and Debbie Allen’s production revamping on Season 2 that really kicked the show up a notch.
2. All That
There really should have been a full track version of this one. Chilli singing like it’s her last meal, Left Eye leading the viewers to sit their booties in a chair, and T-Boz’s scratchy tenor in the background is hands down one of my favorite theme songs. The show was really cool too at the time. It was like a teenage SNL. TLC was also the first musical act to be featured on the show. Never mind that Arsenio Hall show clip at the end, lol.
This song kicks in strong from the very first second. No one can forget Sherman Hemsley’s bow-legged signature walk, lol. The “Shine On Me” theme was written by Andrae Crouch and performed by Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Although I did enjoy the show, the theme song is what really did it for me. Check it out…
There are many other theme songs that I love, but these 5 stand out in my head. What are your favorite theme songs? Here’s one that is my least favorite of all time….
M.A.S.H. (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital)
This theme song is beyond depressing. I can in a bad mood every time I hear it. I understand the premise of the show was during war-time, but I’m just saying….I just can’t do it…..check it out at your own risk, lol. And get this, the name of this actual song is called “Suicide is Painless”….SMH
