Most people in today’s age retire between the ages of 55 to 70 years old (give or take). Many workers look forward to this joyous day that they can be free from work uniforms, punching a clock, wearing a suit and tie and putting up with corporate games. But what happens when you have a job that not so um….morally appropriate and you decided to retire? Do you get the same glory out of it? Apparently so. Meet Louise and Martine Fokkens. These twin ladies have decided to hang up their working hats at 70 year old….from prostitution. WTH?! Yes, you read correctly…..twin prostitutes who are retiring at the age of 70.
As Louise and Martine make their exit from the prostitution business, Amsterdam just happen to raise their minimum age for it from 18 to 21. But from the time the Fokkens twins started in the business until now, they’ve had over 355,000 men between the two of them. Talk about good record keeping. After that many bed (or street, car, etc) partners, who would really still be counting? They’ve only decided to retire because of arthritis and the fact that there aren’t too many customers looking for 70 year old prostitutes on the street. And if you thought they were just sitting on the couch watching TV finding new gardening tips, then think again. They’ve decided to write a book about the experiences, titled “The Ladies of Amsterdam”. I’m sure this one will be flying off the shelves as this the first I’ve ever heard of twin prostitutes (and 70 years old at that). In the book, they’ll be talking about the changes they’ve seen in the profession over the years and how the best years of prostitution were those that were before its legalization in 2000. Is it just me or would those just so happen to be the better years too because they were younger back then? Just a thought.
I can’t be mad at these retired prostitute twins for making some money off of their story. After all, they still have to have a hustle in life some kind of way. “Meet the Fokkens” was also a documentary om the twins that was released in 2012. One of the sisters still has one foot in her old life though. Martine still has a regular customer that she sees so much that she claims it’s “like going to church on Sunday”. SMH…..come on Martine. At this point, it’s time to hang it up for good. What do you think about these women of the night? Well, let me rephrase that because with more than 355,000 clients, they were obviously women of the night, morning and afternoon. Do you think they should get paid for their documentary and book now that their prostitution days have hit a brick wall?
