My Oh Mya….The New Look

Mya. We all remember her right? The woman behind the hits “My Love Is Like…Wo”, “Case of the Ex” and “It’s All About Me” has created somewhat of a lengthy and successful career for herself. Although “…Wo” was probably her last big hit (and my personal favorite) she has definitely made some quality music since then. So what is she up to these days???? She actually released a CD on iTunes a few months back called K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple).  I’ve heard some of the tracks and they are actually pretty good. But it’s her music video for the new single “Take Him Out”, featuring Spice that really concerns me. Gone are the days of her sleek, sexy outfits, good lighting and stylish clothes. Don’t get me wrong, she still looks great physically. But this video is just simply put….not good. The song is decent, but you have to see this for yourself to believe. I ran across this video this week and was really embarrassed for her. You have to see this one to believe it. Somebody, please take this video out of public viewing…SMH

And on a brighter note, Peauxetic Expressions has changed up its look from the previous layout. You will find that the blog postings are much easier to navigate. Plus you can easily access all of my YouTube videos at the top of the home page.  And don’t forget to pick up your copy of my poetry book, Blurred Vision, if you don’t already have one. Just go to any of the posts related to Blurred Vision, and you can purchase your copy there, through PayPal. My new book, Hindsight 20/20, is now complete and will be released in the first quarter of 2013!

Here’s another (more appealing) clip of Mya in her glory days….

Thirsty Thursday…Bottoms Up!

Ok, so the summer’s almost over and you barely missed the mark on getting that six pack you wanted or slimming down a couple of dress sizes for the pool party. But, there’s hope! When winter comes you can just wear sweaters and no one will know the difference, lol. But seriously, we still have a little bit of summer left, which means the heat will be here for a while. So that means we have to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Plus, it’s just good to stay hydrated and drink water all year round. But if you’re anything like me, you get tired of drinking water by itself, so here are a few alternatives I use that spice up your water intake routine.

Water with Cucumbers

I actually can’t take full credit for this one. One of my old managers told me about this concoction at a spa she used to frequently go to. All you do is get a gallon jug of water (if you can it’s great to drink close to or equal to a gallon of water a day. It’s an easy way to help lose weight), and cut up pieces of cucumbers in the water. Let it chill (preferably overnight) and drink it! It has a great, refreshing taste and it’s different from just plain ole water.  Plus, you may help fight off colds, as cucumbers contain Vitamin C, as well as potassium, and silica (a trace mineral that we need for healthy connective tissue).

Sobe Lifewater Mango Mandarin with Coconut Water

This water is really good when you’re looking for a quick single serve bottle of water to drink. It has a sweet flavor, but doesn’t taste like sugar water either. If you like mangoes, you’ll love this one. Plus coconut water has many health benefits, including aiding in weight loss, potassium (as much as a banana, one of the leading sources), and even helping reduce high blood pressure. Don’t sleep on this drink. I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll enjoy it. At 80 calories a bottle, this is the closest you’ll get to sweet tasting water that’s good for you. Plus it contains vitamins A and C.

The Guilty Pleasure: Jack Daniel’s Honey

Let’s face it. Sometimes, water just doesn’t do the trick when you’ve had a hard day at work or out with a group of friends. I was first introduced to Jack Daniel’s Honey by fellow a blogger (www.popgoesthecity.com) . I was intrigued by this new flavor, so I went out and bought a bottle, lol. It has a much smoother taste than the original and a must have for anyone that is a fan of Jack Daniel’s….just remember to drink responsibly.  And just as a point to remember, it’s always healthier to drink straight liquor rather than a mixed drink. Jack Daniel’s has 65 calories per fluid ounce (and chances are you won’t be able to drink more than a few ounces straight…or at least you shouldn’t be able to). Compare that to a Pina Colada that has 526 calories, at only 6.8 ounces. Makes you think twice doesn’t it?

What are some of your favorite healthy (or not so healthy) alternatives to drinking water?

Blow Up and Slow Down

We’ve all experienced it before. That racing motorist that speeds through our residential districts and nearly clips our heels from just walking across the street. Some people don’t even care about huge speed bumps that tear up their cars….nope, they just keep going at a neck breaking speed. Are they drunk, crazy or just in too big of a hurry? Although it may be funny to joke about these reckless drivers, it’s no laughing matter when someone gets injured or they injure themselves. Lin Chen, a Ningbo (in Zhejiang province), China resident takes matters into her own hands (and mouth) to stop the fast and furious drivers in her neighborhood. How does she do it? Let’s just say she uses some very unconventional methods.

67-year-old Chen had been complaining to police about cars that speed through her neighborhood. But after failed attempts with no action from the police department, she enlists a little help from someone. Well, not a real someone but a blow up doll. Yep, she actually went to the store, purchased the doll and dressed it up in sexy lingerie to deter drivers from speeding through her neighborhood. Her thought process was that if she bought a sexy doll to tie up to a tree by the traffic lights, people would slow down. Surprisingly, it has worked. Although police state that they wouldn’t have thought of this method (who would? lol), they admit that the number of accidents have declined since Lin Chen and her blow up side kick have carried out their elaborate plan. Chen says that if people have something to look at, maybe they’ll slow down. And she was exactly right.

As hilarious (and clever) as this is, can you imagine Lin Chen walking into the store to buy this blow up doll? LOL. And did she buy the lingerie too or was that in her private collection? Plus, exactly how fed up do you have to get to reach this point??? But I do have one thought about this whole blow up fiasco. What happens when the people driving slow down…..and collide into each other? I guess it’s better than an impact at 60 plus mph, but still a potential crash nonetheless. And although it may shock drivers the first time, what happens when they catch on that they’re really looking at a blow up doll? They probably won’t slow down the next time….just a thought.

What do you think about Lin Chen’s tools to stop reckless driving in her neighborhood?

Fantasy: Turned On Or Turned Off?

By definition, the word fantasy means to imagine things that are impossible or improbable.  Deep down in our most intimate, private, maybe even nasty thoughts…what is that we fantasize about? Could it be something of a sexual nature? Whips, chains, hand cuffs, etc….. you fill in the blank to your own fantasy. What defines a turn on or turn off, depends on who controls the switch. If we are honest with ourselves, we have all had these kinds of thoughts before (even the prudish people who say they don’t, lol). And speaking of “impossible” or “improbable”, how much control do we have in making some of these fantasies a reality? Maybe much more than you could ever imagine…

Ok, so maybe you insist that you don’t have fantasies of the sexual or carnal origin (hmmmm…right). How about movies or images that portray unrealistic and beautiful galaxies that we could never live in? This is another form of fantasy that pleases our senses and makes us want more and more. Just think of how technology has become more and more realistic over the years. Although we can’t actually live the life of an Avatar or have super powers like the Avengers, we can get pretty close to it. Maybe that’s why they call it a fantasy….because we can get so close…but it’s still not reality.

Now that you’re all hot and bothered and floating in 3D space, let’s switch gears. Have you ever sat and fantasized about where you will be in life in the next 5 to 10 years? Do you fantasize about what your true calling and passion is over your life? The sad and harsh reality is many people would answer these questions with a resounding NO! It’s easy to articulate what we want in the bedroom, who did what to who on pointless reality shows, and how cool the last Summer blockbuster was, but how often can we articulate what we want out of life? It’s natural to fantasize about things that are pleasing to the flesh, but we should always remember to save some room for what matters most. Just like there’s a thin line between love and hate, there’s also a very thin line between reality and fantasy.

I too am guilty of not being totally aware of where I will be a few years from now. I know that I would eventually like to be responsible over my own income, whether that’s owning my own publishing company, continuing to write books or even owning a restaurant. In my opinion, there’s nothing like having your own. Life has a way of throwing a monkey wrench in our best laid plans. But, we do have the power to make fantasies come true. If Donald Trump, Janet Jackson, Steven Spielberg, and Oprah can all turn themselves on, why can’t we? Everything we fantasize about is not too far beyond our reach.

So tell me, what is your ultimate fantasy? Have you turned yourself on and given your purpose the green light? Don’t wait for others to do it for you….you owe it to yourself to be TURNED ON!
