Janet Jackson Is Back With ‘Made For Now’
Janet Jackson has made one hell of a comeback in the last year. Then again, her influence has never really left. After a well deserved break with her new baby, Eissa, she returned with her first leg of the State of the World tour at the end of 2017. The tour is still in full force now, including a headlining stop at the Essence Festival last month. Now, she’s making waves again, with her new single and video, “Made For Now”, featuring Daddy Yankee.
“Made For Now” has a worldly, upbeat feel, with elements of African, Latin and Caribbean rhythms. The video is colorful, complete with several costume changes and dance sequences in the street. It reminds me of an updated version of her “Alright” music video. Daddy Yankee primarily serves as the hype man on the song, but his presence brings the energy up another level.
Although the song doesn’t forge any new songwriting heights (the chorus is a bit repetitive), it’s a feel good party. This type of song is perfect to ride out the rest of the summer and keep the positive vibes flowing. Hopefully, “Made For Now” is a prelude to a new studio album from Ms. Jackson. She made her first late night TV appearance in over 14 years on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this past Friday. Check out the performance and the “Made For Now” music video below.
