Kelly Rowland Serves Up a Hot Cup of ‘Coffee’
Teasers for Kelly Rowland’s new single, “Coffee”, have been all over social media lately. The former Destiny’s Child founding member hasn’t released a full-length studio album since 2013’s Talk A Good Game. That album was underrated, with several missed opportunities for singles, including “Talk A Good Game”, “#1”, and “Put Yout Name On It”. The singer hasn’t confirmed whether or not “Coffee” is merely a new track or an upcoming lead-single from a new album, it’s nice to hear some new music from the voice that carried much of Destiny’s Child’s harmonies.
Kelly wastes no time explaining her intentions in the song. She sings, “Before you go to work, I need you to go to work.” Obviously, she would beg to differ that Folgers is the best part of waking up. At least not better than sex. The video finds her looking as stunning as ever, with dancers donning outfits that resemble different “shades” of coffee. Vocally, the song is a bit of a departure for Kelly as she flaunts her lower register here. She pulls it off very well and manages to stay at the forefront of the song’s complicated production.
My only gripe, if there is one, is just as soon as the caffeine hits your system, “Coffee” is over. The song clocks in at just barely over 2 minutes. Check out Kelly’s piping hot “Coffee” for yourself below and let me know what you think.
