Xscape: Hummin, Comin At Us…Again
Xscape was one of the premier female R&B female groups of the 90s. They only have three studio albums to their credit (Hummin, Comin At Cha, Off The Hook and Traces Of My Lipstick). However, they had an impressive string of hits including “Understanding”, “Do You Want To?” and “My Little Secret”. Trouble in paradise within the group forced them apart, immediately following their third album. Kandi and Tiny have since kept a high media profile. Kandi is a staple on Real Housewives of Atlanta, not to mention her songwriting feats “No Scrubs” and “Bills Bills Bills”) and Bedroom Kandi. Tiny was married to T.I., which kept her in the headlines. The new news about the couple is they are now going through a divorce.
Sisters LaTocha and Tamika haven’t been as prominent. LaTocha released some solo singles and the duo also performed at the So So Def 20th Anniversary celebration. Fans have been wanting an Xscape reunion for years, but it just didn’t seem likely. Rumors, public shaming and hogging the spotlight were all just some of the reasons the group couldn’t hold it together. The fat lady hasn’t sang just yet though. The group announced this week that they are back together, working on a new album and preparing for a tour. They cited the New Edition biopic as motivation to make it happen for the fans. Although an Xscape reunion sounds great (and frankly needed in today’s music), I just don’t know how long it will last.
Here is their recent interview with Big Tigger, detailing their comeback. Also, check out some of their best songs when everything was peachy king.
